GIMP (2D Paint Program) Now Available

17 Jan 2002: GIMP 1.2 for Windows is now available for use. Please use C:\temp for the location of swap or temporary files when prompted. Do not use your profile space (C:\winnt\profiles\...) or your home directory.

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program, a 2D painting/image manipulation program similar to Adobe Photoshop. It is not as extensive as Photoshop, nor is it as robust (i.e., it may crash). But it is free and can be useful for those people who need to do 2D graphics.

You can start a new picture with the File/New menu item. You can save by right-clicking in the picture window and selecting Save. Please save your work frequently to avoid frustration.

News flash!!! As of 3:00 pm today, I found that GIMP was not installed correctly for all workstations. I will try to remedy it tomorrow (Jan 18, 2002). Sorry for the inconvenience!

9:30 am 18 Jan 2002 GIMP is now working on all workstations.
