Invalid F: Drive Problem
    Main Page
    How-to Information

If you are trying to start up a Microsoft Office 2000 product or an add-in, you may encounter the following error:

Invalid F: drive.

This means that the F: drive is not currently mapped to any device or network share. You can map it to the correct network share (that removes the error and allows add-ins) by following these steps:

  1. Exit the Office 2000 application (e.g., Word, Excel, etc.)

  2. Map the F: network drive to \\css1\applications:

Either of these methods will work the same way:

    1. The GUI way:

      1. right-click on My Computer
      2. select Map Network Drive
      3. Select the F: drive
      4. Type:

        \\css1\applications

      5. If you choose "Reconnect at login":

F: drives don't always get mapped for the DOU110 computers with the Zip drives. That's the only known problem with keeping the connection.

    2. Open an MS-DOS Prompt window and type:

      net use F: \\css1\applications /persistent:yes

  3. Restart the Office 2000 application (and try the add-in again, if desired).
